Fourth Quarter Book - "The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment"

The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment  by Eckhart Tolle is just what the title suggests and a lot more. It is one mans personal journey in moving forward spiritually.

This time of year people get distracted with remembering the past and envisioning the future while neglecting the all important "now". remember to smell the Christmas tree and enjoy the people around you.

With this book the author, "...awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present."

September's Book - "The China Study"

"The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell, Thomas M. Campbell II, John Robbins and Howard Lyman is "The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health" according to Amazon.com.

This study is not new, nor is the book but for some reason many ignore its lessons as it is controversial due to its defiance of conventional wisdom. Western nutrition insists that a high protein diet is better for health, particularly in people who have blood sugar issues. This study, on a massive scale, in China completely contradicts this notion. Not only does a low protein diet (5-15g per day versus the 70g the average American eats) not only balance blood sugar but hormones and the body in general.

The study shows, that as long as minimum nutrition is met, that fewer calories and less animal protein per day leads to optimum health and optimum weight. That hormones are balanced and that blood sugar is not only controlled but that Diabetes II can be reversed.

July's Book - Kitchen Table Wisdom by Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.

Kitchen Table Wisdom, Stories That Heal by Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D., This is the kind of book you leave on your coffee table or by your bedside and frequently pick up to reread. In the Buddhist tradition a disciple is taught by telling them stories. This book does just this only the stories are real. Sometimes the easiest way to learn and to understand is to see the challenges others have faced and how they dealt with them and learn what they would have done differently. This book gives us this opportunity.

While the book is written by an MD she is open, honest and humble. The stories collected can be inspiring, enlightening and even humorous at times. See if you find yourself anywhere in the stories.

June's Book - The GenoType Diet by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo

The GenoType Diet by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo is the latest addition to Dr. D'Adamo's list of books, remember the "Blood Type Diet"? For some the "Blood Type Diet" concept describes us exactly but for others if just was not right, something was missing, not everyone fit their blood type characteristics. Obviously there were other factors that affected our physiology, constitutions and and general needs to be healthy.

With this latest addition to his library of books, Dr. D'Adamo has addressed this "gap" if you will. Many genetic factors are taken into consideration, not just the blood type and secretors vs. non secretors. One might wonder how they can figure out their genetic make-up without expensive DNA testing.

The book and accompanying web site address this. It takes a little time, a tape measure, and maybe the help of a friend to assist with the measuring. Then one can figure out if their type is: Hunter, Gatherer, Teacher, Explorer, Warrior, or Nomad. The book will explain the background of each type while the web site makes it easy to figure out what you are by just answering the questions online. There are graphs that show you what your "mix" of types is as well as recommendations.

February's Book - How to Heal Toxic Thoughts by Sandra Ingerman

How to Heal Toxic Thoughts by Sandra Ingerman. Sandra is a psychologist, practicing shaman, teacher and author. I have all her books (most are autographed) and have personally studied with her. She has always talked about our thoughts and emotions and how they affect others as well as how they affect us. Now she has written a book to help us deal with our toxic energy. This is a great little book, that is easy to read and understand, no matter what spiritual level you are at. The book is filled with step by step exercises to first help one become aware of their thoughts and energy as well as information on how to transmute our energy from toxic to healing. This book is a must have for any bookshelf, the kind of book one comes back to again and again to repeat some of the exercises as life presents new challenges for us to deal with.

November's Book - Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman

This is a great little book, it is no wonder it was a best seller. If you are interested in the space-time continuum, and the possibilities that Einstein may have conceived (in layman's terms of course) then this is a great little book for you. Can you imagine a place where time stands still and raindrops just hang in the air? These are some of the notions that are considered in this great little read.

August's Book - Wheels of Life by Andorea Judith, Ph.D.

This book is a great overview of the origins of the Chakra system. The book includes information on each center, its physical, physiological and spiritual aspects. The book does not include information on the seven rays and their impact on the chakras but it is a thorough investigation of the energy centers based on the original Yogic teachings from the Vedic Literature and Upanishads. Andorea does not get hung up on all the other chakra centers like some authors but instead focuses on the seven main centers along the central channel. She contends that to study just these seven centers can take a life time to master. Her book is a good starting point.

July's Book - Fallen Angels and the Origins of Evil by Elizabeth Clare Prophet

Elizabeth Clare Prophet (author of The Forgotten Years of Jesus) is based on manuscripts of the Book of Enoch that were discovered by a Scottish explorer in 1773. The book presents a forgotten controversy from western religious philosophy. The book of Enoch was studied by Jesus and his followers but both Jewish and Christian religious leaders later banned the book. This is about the possible origins of evil on earth and the incarnation of angels into human form. Much of it reads the way a King James Bible reads so if this style is objectionable to you then look for the TV special about the book of Enoch on The History channel.

May's Book - A Course in Miracles by the Foundation for Inner Peace

This book has been around for over 10 years and it takes one year to go through the entire process, but if you have not as yet tried this life changing process it is worth the journey. If you start now you will be through the journey in one year. There is a simple process to follow each day, a little reading, a short meditation and an affirmation to think about for that day. At the end of the year you will find a new level of peace in your life, fully understand your path and come away with many memorable affirmations to use again later as needed.

April's Book - The Web That Has No Weaver : Understanding Chinese Medicine

If you would like to have an overview of Chinese Medicine that is easy for the layman to understand, then this is the book for you. This book goes through TCM theory in an easy to read format with lots of life style wisdom. For example, did you know the best position to go to sleep in is lying on your right side? This puts the least strain on the heart and allows the digestive system to drain naturally using gravity. This position also allows the blood to naturally drain towards the liver where it is stored at night (when not needed by the muscles). There are many such enlightening "tid bits" for you to ponder in this great little book.

March's Book - The Tao of Physics by Firtjof Capra

This book is recommended by Douglas Auchincloss of the New York Magazine as "A brilliant bestseller". Dancing Bear also recommends this book as not only a fun read but an insightful journey into the differences between spiritual beliefs and scientific "reality". Sometimes they can be resolved and sometimes, science is just not there yet. Someday more of what we experience in our spiritual practices and energy healing will be explained by science, in the mean time Capra's insights will have to do.
